Caring for her father while balancing work and family

For Sarah, taking care of her aging father had become overwhelming. In addition to raising two young children and working full-time, Sarah was now managing her father’s medical appointments, care team, and living arrangements. The stress was taking a major toll– Sarah felt exhausted, anxious, and was having difficulty making decisions for herself and her father.

That’s when Sarah found Caregiving Care, a consultancy that provides individualized support and resources for caregivers. She decided to reach out, unsure if they could really help her situation.

From their very first meeting, Sarah knew she had found the support she desperately needed. She completed an intake form and met individually with Dr. Marcie and Dr. Jackie, respectively. They listened intently to Sarah’s challenges and put together a comprehensive plan, called a Caregiver Action Plan (see example below), customized for her unique circumstance.

They helped Sarah develop a system to prioritize and manage her time while balancing multiple obligations by developing a Priority Playbook (see example below) for her to use. This playbook broke complex decision-making into a step-by-step process, helping Sarah navigate the process of prioritizing, planning, and executing important tasks. They also created customized meditations and yoga videos to help Sarah address the emotional burnout she was feeling from juggling her many responsibilities.

Perhaps most importantly, the Caregiving Care team was there as a sturdy, reassuring voice to guide Sarah through the complex journey of caregiving. They provided emotional and operational support, becoming Sarah’s teammates during a challenging time.

With Caregiving Care’s help, Sarah finally felt she had a handle on her caregiving responsibilities without being totally overwhelmed. She was able to be a more patient mother to her children, present friend, and thoughtful employee. Most of all, Sarah no longer felt alone– she had partners she could rely on through the caregiving process.

Sarah continues to use the personalized tools and resources that were developed for her and plans to follow-up with the Caregiving Care team as new obstacles in her caregiving journey arise.
